Bruises and Bruises, When And Why To Go To The Doctor

After the blow, bruising follows a series of processes. But if they appear and disappear for no reason or if they are purple marks with intense pain, a clinical assessment should be requested.

Also known as bruises, bruises, or bruises (both valid) I think I'm not wrong in stating that we have all suffered from them at some point in our lives... and although most of the time they are of no major consequence, the effects are not aesthetically pleasing from our skin to green makes us want them to disappear as soon as possible. If you want to know everything about them and hasten their disappearance, I invite you to continue reading.

WHY ARE THEY MANUFACTURED?

Beneath our skin is a whole network of tiny blood vessels called capillaries. When one of these ruptures, for example due to trauma, blood oozes out from the inside.

If the blows we receive also damage the skin, then the blood gushes out, but if it remains intact, then the blood will be trapped under the skin causing the appearance of bruising.

WHY DO THEY CHANGE THE COLOR?

From the day they appear until they disappear, bruises go through the entire color range from red to yellow through black, purple and green. These changes are caused by the chemical breakdown of hemoglobin present in the blood, and are completely normal.

HEMATOMA STAGE

By cardinal colors we can tell approximately how many days he was there and how many days he will disappear.

  1. Red. If the hematoma looks this color, it is because it has just been produced. Hemoglobin, which gives blood its characteristic color, is still intact.
  2. Black. Between days 1 and 3 after the appearance of the hematoma, the blood darkens as the hemoglobin begins to break down, turning from red to black.
  3. Purple. This is the classic color of a bruise, and it usually changes this color between days 3 and 6. The biochemical breakdown of the blood continues.
  4. Green. We generally between day 6 and day 12 after the appearance of the hematoma. Our body releases bilirubin and biliverdin, green substances that are important in the decomposition and elimination phase of hematomas.
  5. Yellow. Bruises usually change to this color between day 12 and day 21. It is the last trace of blood to be reabsorbed by the body, and by day 21 the bruise will barely be visible.

WHAT CAN BE DONE TO MAKE THEM DISAPPEAR FASTER?

There is no magic cure for bruises to go away from one day to the next, except body makeup, but there are things we can do to speed up the removal process and get rid of them before three weeks.

  1. Ice. We will apply it only in the first 24 hours after the appearance of the bruise. We will wrap it in a cloth, apply it for five minutes, wait an hour and apply it again.
  2. Hot. It is recommended to apply it after the first 24 hours. We can moisten a cloth with warm water or use, for example, a thermal bag heated in a microwave. We will apply heat for about five minutes and let it rest to apply it again later.
  3. Pomade. There are several brands and with different compositions, but all of them have the goal of trying to get rid of the bruise as soon as possible. At the pharmacy, they can tell us which one is indicated for us.

SHOULD I GO TO MY HEALTH CENTER?

In principle it is not necessary. But if we're people who get bruises relatively often, we don't even remember hitting ourselves but suddenly coming out, if the bruises appear and go away suddenly or if it's a purple mark that doesn't hurt or the pain is very intense, in this case we have to go to our health center.

DO BRUCKS ALWAYS GIVE UP ON THEM?

In general, our bodies reabsorb bruises little by little until they are completely gone after a few weeks.

But in some cases, our body can't get rid of it and hematoma encapsulation occurs, which is a fibrous reaction around it to form a capsule. In many of these cases, the best treatment option is usually drainage in the operating room.
