Tarantino receives support from MCU actor Anthony Mackie after strong criticism of Marvel statements

After many critical statements about Marvel, Quentin Tarantino received support from a special angle. MCU actor Anthony Mackie turned out to agree completely with the director, given that he himself made about the same statements in 2018. The old interview with Mackie is now going online again at a rapid pace, precisely because the criticism flew around Tarantino last week.

Last Tuesday, Quentin Tarantino made the blunt statement that Marvel caused the deaths of the movie stars , and he has since known it. Criticism of the director came from all kinds of actors and filmmakers , but now statements by MCU actor Anthony Mackie from 2018 are also circulating everywhere in response to Tarantino's statements. He was not critical of Tarantino, but actually said exactly the same thing. This is what he said at the London Comic-Con at the time: "There are no movie stars anymore. I mean, Anthony Mackie is not a movie star. The Falcon is a movie star. And that's what's weird. It was with Tom Cruise first , and Will Smith and Stallone and Schwarzenegger, if you went to the movies, you went to the Stallone movie. You went to see the Schwarzenegger movie. Now you're going to see X-men. So the evolution of the superhero has meant the death of the movie star."

Straight leg

So not only filmmakers from outside Marvel can go in with a straight leg, but also actors within Marvel. In fact, Mackie may have been even harsher about the current state of Hollywood than Tarantino ever was. He said that Hollywood mainly produced "for China and for 16-year-olds". That comes at the expense of movies that might become classics, says Mackie: "Think about some of your favorite movies from when you were growing up, those movies wouldn't be made today. The Goonies would n't be made.  Halloween wouldn't be made . The Thing wouldn't be  made You're watching  Stranger Things on Netflix right now , Stranger Things is  Goonies . It's just a different time. Hollywood makes movies for a specific audience instead of just making good movies. And that's why people stopped going to the cinema, because most movies are rubbish."

Nuance of Tarantino

Given Tarantino's critique of Marvel this week, these statements have once again become extremely relevant. Although Tarantino has always been outspoken about Marvel, he also gave a necessary nuance in his recent statements. According to the director, he has no criticism of the films themselves and he used to be a fan of the comic books himself. The problem lies elsewhere: "They're the only things that seem to generate any sort of excitement among a fan base or even the studio that makes them," said Tarantino. "They're excited about that. And you know, it's just the fact that they're the full representation of this movie era right now. There's not really much room for anything else. That's my problem."
